The UAAP has taught us a lesson - the BIG DOME is not that big anymore for a La Salle - Ateneo basketball game. Last year, it had the highest recorded attendance for a basketball game with 23,315 spectators. Araneta Coliseium, the largest indoor stadium in Southeast Asia, has a maximum capacity of 25,000. It’s not enough anymore. The problem that needs to be addressed now is, aside from Studio 23, where can we place those who cannot fit inside anymore? It is a problem that property and commercial developers can address. The next question is who will make a bigger dome and where?
SM Investments made announcements mid-2008 that it would build a sports stadium in Mall of Asia complex that would compete with Araneta Coliseum. Reports say that the stadium would have a capacity of 15,000. The Philippines needs a bigger stadium for sports and entertainment events.
Manila Zoo also had a share in the issue when it was speculated as a venue for the new home of Philippine Basketball Association (PBA).
When can the crowd fit in?
