It’s very obvious how Google writes very lousy in Filipino. That’s a fact.
Upon successful download and installation of Google Chrome (Filipino Version), I noticed that Google made too many language errors. The translations made are so rough that Filipinos would simply use the international English version of the browser. Our Filipino professor once cited how she had a hard time understanding the translations in Gmail years back. These translations should not be robotic and should be easy to understand.
Example, “Limasin ang pag-browse data”. What is Google trying to insinuate here? It’s an obvious funny translation of “Clear Private Data” in Mozilla. “Burahin ang Pribadong Data” would be fine. Also, the word “limasin” should not be used in the first place because it means drain.
Maybe it would take days to fully and properly translate Google applications like Chrome, Gmail, among others. What the internet giant should do is to consult Filipino professors and linguist. They will realize that the Filipino version of their applications need overhaul.
Some more uncanny translations:
-“Bakantehin ang Cache” once translated will mean “Vacate the Cache”
-“I-saved ang mga password”, “I-” before a verb should not be matched with a verb in past tense. And the usage of the sentence is incorrect.
-“Pumili ng mga item upang ma-import”, The usage is not correct.
-“Bago window na incognito” What is incognito?
And many more…
Nonetheless, Google is still witty to use “history” instead of “kasaysayan”.
